[00:06.892] In this dream I'm in a hospital bed.
[00:11.090] And it's like a scene from a movie you've seen a million times.
[00:15.437] The doctor is holding a small pink bundle.
[00:19.527] And he leans over the bed.
[00:21.700] And he hands me the bundle.
[00:24.371] "It's a girl" he says.
[00:27.743] "Isn't she beautiful, look!"
[00:32.844] And wrapped in the bundle,
[00:34.201] I see the little face of my dog.
[00:35.928] A small rat terrier, named Lolabelle.
[00:41.384] And no-one says anything like
[00:43.754] "Y'know, this is not a human baby...
[00:47.538] You just gave birth to a dog."
[00:51.850] But I'm so happy.
[00:54.017] I put my head to her forehead,
[00:55.659] and look into her eyes.
[00:57.545] And it's almost a perfect moment -
[01:00.720] except that the joy is mixed with quite a lot of guilt.

[01:07.912] I had engineered this whole thing.
[01:11.845] I had arranged to have Lolabelle sewn into my stomach.

[01:21.746] Lolabelle wasn't a puppy.

[01:26.680] And she kept barking and trying to get out,
[01:29.055] and the surgeons kept trying to push her back in and sew things up
[01:32.344] - and it was really a mess and I felt really bad about it.
